How buying a domain works

Every sale runs through Escrow.com, so your money sits with a licensed third party until the domain is in your account. Many purchases close within a week, and you can pay at once or over up to 12 months.

Steps

  1. Send an offer

Open any name and send an offer in US dollars. A line about your plans helps, and it is up to you how much you share. We reply within one business day with a yes or a counter-offer.

  2. Agree on the terms

Once we agree on a price, we open a transaction on Escrow.com with the price, the payment schedule and the fee split. Escrow.com e-mails you a link to review and accept the terms. Offers become binding only when both sides accept them there.

  3. Pay Escrow.com

You pay Escrow.com directly, by bank transfer or another method it accepts, within 5 business days of agreeing. Escrow.com checks the payment and tells us when it is secured.

  4. Receive the domain

As soon as Escrow.com confirms the payment, we start the transfer. A move between two accounts at the same registrar takes minutes, a move to another registrar usually takes a few days. We help with every code and confirmation along the way.

  5. Confirm and own it

You check that the domain is in your account and confirm it on Escrow.com within 5 business days. Escrow.com releases the money to us, and the name is yours for good.

Paying over time

Any name in the catalog can be paid in monthly instalments over 3 to 12 months. The first payment is at least 20% of the price, and the rest is split into equal monthly payments.

During the plan Escrow.com holds the domain in its own account and transfers it to you as soon as the last payment clears. Escrow.com charges a monthly holding fee for this service, and we agree how to share it before the plan begins.

To ask for a plan, tick the instalments box on the offer form or mention it in your message.

Fees

The Escrow.com fee is split equally between buyer and seller. We add nothing on top of the agreed price.

Your registrar may charge its usual transfer fee, which normally includes a year of renewal. Taxes or duties in your country are handled on your side.

What comes with the domain

Common questions

Why do you use Escrow.com?

Escrow.com is a licensed escrow service that has handled domain sales for more than two decades. It holds the buyer's money until the buyer confirms the domain has arrived, so neither side has to take the first step on trust.

Can my company be the buyer?

Yes. Open the Escrow.com transaction in your company's name and register the domain to the company. Escrow.com keeps a record of every payment for your accounts.

Do you sell to buyers in any country?

We sell worldwide wherever Escrow.com can serve the buyer, which covers most countries. Prices are agreed in US dollars.

Is the purchase confidential?

We do not publish buyer names or sale prices. Your inquiry stays between you and us from the first message.
